You sure it's the accelerator sticking? Try and get it to do it with the bonnet open, and engine running. See if you can close the throttle by hand..
I say this because it's more likely be the idle control valve sticking open if the car just sits there and revs at 3000rpm or so.

If not, new throttle cable.

Thanks for the reply,It drives normal, the revs dont stick at all, just the throttle pedal is very hard to press down when you want to accelerate, then after the intial sticking it is fine just very annoying

ahh i see. just check there isnt anything making the throttle cable routing difficult..
If not then sounds like you'll need a new cable.

I get this aswell. It seems to have come in with the cold weather.

Check for a vibration through the pedal aswell, I also get this so i'd assume a new throttle cable is needed if you start getting that too...

Anybody know if you would release abit more power with a new throttle cable, as ive heard it can cause the butterfly to not open fully?

I had this problem in the cold last year. It was "gunk" in the butterfly valve making it stick. I cleaned it with some carb cleaner and a rag. fixed it in 5 mins

Hope this helps

if it happens in the cold weather, could it be water in the cable, turning to ice,
causing it to stick a bit?

Honda's seem to suffer with this. My mate's accord did it and my dad's civic does it. Really hard to press the throttle pedal, makes it really hard to drive smoothly!

Is supposed to be the cable that causes it. Move the throttle body by hand first to see if it moves freely, that would disregard that.

The butterfly valve is in the throttle body. Its the part which the throttle cable is attached too.

Vibration through the throttle pedal can be caused due to the cable being to short, the fix was a stupid long cable, as said above clean the throttle body out. The throttle cable can cause a loss in performance when it is adjusted incorrectly and at WOT the butterfly is not fully open, this is fixed by correctly adjusting the cable.

I dont have any vibration through the throttle cable on the 170, however I did suffer with it on the Racing Puma.I ended up insulating contact points along the cable with pipe insulation tin foil and electrical tape. A bit blue peter but it worked I believe a longer cable is available but not positive on that.
