Does it feel like a stutter at 2500-3000rpm? If so its totally normal. They all have these, its a flat spot in the map. Some say a remap will make it better but mine has been remapped and although better the stutter is there, its made worse by the lightened fly wheel and ported TB as it excentuates the effect.
You will also get what feels like driving into a strong wind when cruising at them revs, this is caused by the EGR system, again totally normal.

Default New owner with Stutter query

Hi,

I have had my ST170 ('52 plate, 85000 miles) for a few months now and have knocked up 1000+ . Very pleased with it apart from the infamous stutter.....
Is it simply a "feature" of the car or is there some underlying condition? Mine does it around the 2000 - 3000 rpm range, both on acceleration and over-run and it is quite disturbing. It does not feel like a misfire, more of a subtle fueling issue.

I have hunted high and low on the web and have not seen a satisfactory outcome - the threads just seem to fall off the cliff!

I have replaced the plugs and the air filter but the issue remains. I don't want to keep throwing money at it for no reason. Other suggestions seem to be:
* HT leads
* Coil pack
* Fuel filter
* Fuel pump

I was considering buying a code reader with live data acquisition and was wondering whether I would have any hope of understanding the data, and whether it might be able to guide me further?

Does anybody have any experience of fixing their stutter, and also of using a live data reader?

Thanks in advance,

Bert

Its caused by the standard map, only way to rid of it is with a remap from Dreamscience or similar, blue fin will improve it but not get rid of it completely.

Thanks very much. Have you tried the DreamScience remap? And if so, roughly what were the costs?

Cheers,

B
