Default Focus ST170 Owners say Hi

Hi all, I recently purchased an 02 (52 Plate) Focus ST170 & I have to say I am more than happy with it.

After reading all the horror stories related to this model I was still happy to buy one. The published performance figures are non-sense...... 0 to 60 in 8 seconds???!! I bet that off the lights going up-hill!

The mid range power is very good and the handling is out of this world!!

I just wondered if there were any ST170 owners out there who like me, are happy with their discreet racers?

can start with a cat pipe then full system, induction kit.

people on here go with the bluefin superchips upgrade but im going to try a place called DAZTEC who will build a chip to the spec of the car and rolling road it for best gains.

the ST's are good cars, we now have 2 300bhp ones, one on a supercharger, one on a turbo
still great to drive aswell.

Think you may need to purchase it from another source... I don't think it came with the official Ford parts.

I think there were smokers pack, comfort pack and another one.

Also, I think Xenons were a factory option as well.

Hi, i picked up my 02 ST170 last week as well, quite pleased although comming from a 225bhp turbo car it takes some getting used to (overtaking caught me out a couple of times - what no turbo).
I seem to have the famous pollen filter cover problem - the carpets are soaked underneath, replaced the cover+seal with the modified ones and just have the carpet to dry out now

I have 1 of the option packs fitted - xenons, h/light washers, heated windscreen, sideskirts, rear spoiler

i believe there's another option pack which includes full leather Recaros

i think the smoker pack has a cig lighter and ashtray instead of coin tray?

When the rev reaches 5,000rpm, you will feel the 'boost' and the car surges forward.

Default new

hi everyone
New member and not technical a new owner of my car till Tuesday... 2004 black 3 door
sorry to start with a request but i cant find a answer anywhere..i am after a none a/c auxiliary belt
for the st 170 can you point me to the part number i just cant see anything stated in my search, i know
there is one for the mk1rs but i am guessing that wont fit
on focus fanatics a member did it to his 2.0 zetec naming these

The belt I ended up using is 78" long. Part numbers are:

Napa 25060780

Goodyear/Gatorback 4060780
would that be a safe bet
many thanks
ted

Hi all I've just picked up a 2002 st170 in silver, I bought it as a cheap fun run around before I move abroad.

the one fault I've picked up on so far is that the internal fan doesn' blow on any settings my question is, is it a common fault and how easy is it to diy

regards

Hi All, picked up my 04 3dr Imperial Blue on Saturday. Had a TDCi Ghia back in 2002. Have to say I love the ST170. Paid peanuts for it, full service history and only 89k. Drives faultless (except a slightly sticking NS front brake, which I think is the sliding pins that needs regreasing as it doesn't happen all the time. I'll check this weekend).
Reminds me very much of my old Renault 5 Gordini Turbo I had in 1986. A total funaround car. Makes my family SUV feel like a boat. Good to have a proper driving car again.

hi jim
This site seems very quiet at the mo so i thought i would say hello.
got my first st 170 in feb ran for a little while and then did the jobs it required...clutch slip in the high speed gears at the moment
so saving up to get a single mass flywheel set up, i fixed the imrc thingy but like almost every other owner get the eml light from
time to time but it still works ok

Hi Ted

thanks for the reply. I have been nosing round the site and it does seem quiet on the ST170 front.

I was quite shocked that there isn't a dedicated ST170 Forum and that STOC don't do a ST170 section After all the 170 is the granddaddy of the STs.

the stoc has zero interest in the 170 it seams it needs to have a volvo engine or even be diesel to tickle their fancy, used to break 170s and owned many over the years the scene is quiet for them, parts are getting harder to find so prices are on the up as these cars do suffer with so many gremlins as well as rust thesedays

Hi 1-PD, I saw your posts with regards to breaking cars. Having done a bit of research before buying the main issue seems to be the IMRC, DMF and clutch. What are the other expensive bits to worry about?

common faults apart from those you mentioned, rust behind rear arch carpet liners and sills, fuel pump, dash clocks, clutch master cylinder and one of the worst jobs is the subframe bushes especially rear, all cars have their faults but the 170 has its fair share as they simply made the car over complicated

if you dim the lights slightly the flickering normally stops

Yep got the flickering dash lights sorted that one by dimming then found out that was the cure! haha

Mine's got a well documented history so coil packs, O2 sensors and a few other little niggles have all been sorted.
So wanted to check what else I could possibly be in for in the future.

As mentioned all cars have their inherent faults, but the sheer fun and great drive is well worth it, in my opinion.

So glad I bought it, pound for pound by far the best driver's car I've owned for a fair few years even though it isn't the fastest.

When i went to see mine it was obvious it had been standing for many months, flat spot tyres seized locking nuts even water throwing out the exhaust
but it had so little rust (bottom of passenger door and one wheel arch just starting)
it turned out to be a keeper

Not the best pic of mine, but this is from the for sale advert. Wheels need a refurb but rest of car is pretty much rust free.
