Default PD Manifold

I fitted one and have run it for 6 months you will notice the differance through the mid range power.
I am now thinking of going for a new Garret roller bearing turbo which will require a new manifold, so if you are interested in a second hand ceramic coated Primary Designs manifold for the focus rs give me a bell.

A new one will cost you about Ł1300 with coating.

Make me an offer for mine.

How comes you need a new manifold for the newer turbo?
If your going for a GT28RS then you need a GT28RS downpipe not a new manifold...

I want to go for the Primary Designs Garret GT28/32 hybrid turbo which is mounted in a slightly differant position to the standard turbo. So with the turbo in a slightly differant position I will require a new manifold. I could however just get a GT28 that would fit the standard manifold but I believe the PD set up that was shown on the April 2005 edition of Performance Ford is the best way to go. The feature was on a guy called Kevin Jones's Focus RS. The performance figures speak for themselves, his 360 BHP car had faster 0-60 and 0-100 times than some of the 400+BHP cars. . But this is just my opinion.

What are the others like in comparrison to the PD manifold??? (collins,Milltek, Ford - the orginal one that they didn't fit)

Are we talking 2-10hp or just looks better???

Also how much diff is a 4 in to 1 against a 4 into 2 into 1??? again 2 - 10 hp???

IMO if the differences between the manifolds is negligable then finding the balance of well made and good price is the way to go for me.

I can't comment on the others as I've only had PD manifold. But referancing back to an even older issue of performance ford magazine (its a hive of info) Primary Designs did a 4 page spread on their workshop and fabrication facilities and a bit on FRS manifold which I was impressd by. They can offer you inconel and titanium stuff aswell as stainless. But what drew me right in was the way they weld the manifold collector (where 4 tubes come to one) they weld it from the inside and the four tubes just blend and flow together nicely . The GGR one all four tubes just gather in what looks like an upside down mushroom. Don't know the diferance in performance figures between them so cant comment on that. I just preferred the PD set up, and I was also able to get GGR one brand new for Ł700 through a contact, and still chose PD one @ Ł1300.

I could be mad eh!

Primary Designs have also made products for formula 1 and WRC cars, this can only be a good thing.

Agreed it is a good thing!!!

I've been offered the Mountune unit and am toying with the Milltek - to match up with the decat and exhaust.

Just not sure where to go with it really.

Also got a friend who will ceramic coat it for me.

You've got to go with what you feel is best for you and what you are willing to pay. If you lived near you could go an look at the products in the flesh. I have the Miltek cat back and it's good so I would hazard a guess their manifold would be good aswell. I didn't really like the look of the collins cast jobby but cant comment on how it performs.

Has anyone thought about going down the route of getting a custom manifold made up?

Yep - got some excellent friends in the engineering trade and have considered this but when you can buy one for just under Ł400 I'm not sure your going to save yourself much when you consider how much work is involved.

I'm going to get it coated too - still going to have a heat shield but it'll be a stainless with an engraving on it. Not too Large but just enough to cover it. Will only be used for shows.

why dont you get one of them plates made up that covers the plugs and have that engraved, these manifolds look the dogs danglies

i'm having the 2 boss's cut off of it and ground away so you wouldnt know it had a heat shield...

the ceramic coating does the job....

Could do but got the spark plug cover already that leaves the rocker cover expossed.

Getting them chopped and smoothed is a good idea - and something I'll deffo consider.

Going for the whole bling engine bay tho and it's an easy excuse for more bling.

Some thinking to do I have.

well mate in my opinion, if its bling you want then do as you please, BUT if you want it ceramic coated and then fit the BLING heat shield, personally i think it'll look poo, but up to you at the end of the day...

its gonna look the tits anyway, and defo stand out like a sore thumb

Fit and use the heat shield as when my heat shield was off for a couple of days I was in traffic one day and the rain was evaporating on the bonnet, fuckin looked like my engine bay was on fire. I have heat shield on my PD manifold and also silver heat reflecting insulation on the underside of the bonnet. Seems to do the trick.

I'm also thinking of going for the Mountune Manifold and getting it ceramic coated by Camcoat. Will probably also get a heatshield but not a polished one. Any ideas where the best place to get one from is?

It's a fabricate your own job really.

Find someone with an engineering background - buy yourself a sheet of stainless or mild steel and get them to cut it out for you.
