Hi. I have a Focus 1.8 Zetec 99 T. When driving at low speeds for what ever gear Im in, if you put your foot to the floor, it sort of cough and splutters. When it does this you get lots of black smoke/sh*t out of the exhaust. As soon as you ease up slightly it kicks in and drive normal. I think its probley dirt in the carb. Does anyone know how to clean it or if it might be anything else? Please help!!

Ain't the carb as it's fuel injection.

Have a look at the state of the air filter and try a bottle of STP fuel injector in the tank and take it out for a runt.

If it's still playing up put it in test mode and see if it gives you any DTC codes.

common fault on these is if you have fitted non ford plugs they usually track down the outside of the plug (like a pencil line) ngk's are favs for causing this...leads shud usually be changed aswell
