Default focus rs track width

i am building a focus turbo hillclimb car, and am wanting to increase the rear track to that of the rs. can somebody just tell me which part of the rear beam is altered to allow for this extra 65mm, are the arms themselves a different length? as i have been told the subframe is the same as a standard focus.
cheers

I've researched this when I was building my RS clone. As I was assembling the suspension and chassis components I'd take comparison measurements. As I was using a SVT/ST170 as a starting point, that will be my reference figures. Start with the wheels and tires, stock 7inch wide compared to 8inch, there's 13mm, half of the 1inch with of rim. Now that width is 7mm farther out, the difference in offset, stock 49et and RS's 42et. Then on the front is spindle length and on the rear is spindle length, where I find the rest which is around 12-13mm. Add it all up to total 32-33 times 2 for both sides you have 65mm increase track.
Rim et.............49-42= 7mm
Wheel width 7>8-half=13mm
Spindle length=.....12-13mm
Total per side.......32-33mm Total for car the 65mm claimed

Thanks alot for that mate. That was exactly what I was needing to know, didn't know what id need to replace. Is the camber change on the rs built into the hubs too? Or is that from top mount on front and upper linkage at the rear?

Default Track Width

Where is this measurement taken from? Going by what you show the RS's track is only 20mm larger front and 27mm increase in the rear. I believe in many publications that Ford states...feel free to correct me if its wrong...that the Focus RS has a increased track width of 65mm over stock! As I asked in the beginning were are you figures measured at?
The measurement of 1514mm is taken from the center<->center of rim/tire.

Here as stated by http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?...Specifications
Front Redesigned MacPherson strut suspension with uprated offset coil springs/Sachs racing dampers, 65mm increased track width, revised lower A-arms incorporating a unique all new hydro bush, revised static negative camber, 18 mm anti-roll bar

Taken from www.carfolio.com

I'm guessing the difference in the figures may be that the figures Carfolio quotes are hub face to hub face and not edge of tyre to edge of tyre as Ford may have quoted.

I found nothing to the fact about where Ford took their measurements from,

I took measurement on my RS suspension with stock OZ's and 225/40/18 tires, from the center of tread on tire to the same on other and got close to the 1514mm you state is the tracking. I would say the tracking is measured there instead of the outer edge of tire since not all Focus's use the same size tire, but they all have the same rotor face spacing.(center to center) Well all but the RS...

Hi Glenn! I just wanted to add a few thoughts:

The diagram in the spec sheet above is a source of confusion... it identifies the track width from wheel face to wheel face, but track width is universally measured from wheel center to wheel center, just like you had done. So the number is correct as confirmed by you: ~1514mm, and the diagram is wrong.

However, the "65mm increased track width" claim is not correct based on this information. Because actual track width is measured from the wheel centers, width of the wheel has no effect on the measurement, so you lose 25mm right there, bringing the increase to only 40mm. If you make the comparison to a standard 6.5" wheel rather than an SVT/ST170, you lose another 13mm, and there you get the number hotdog posted: 27mm increased rear track width. For my own edification, I just went outside and measured my SVT's rear track width, which came out to what hotdog posted: 58.5", with the front slightly wider.

It appears that Ford was altering the term "track width" for marketing purposes (if Ford ever actually made the claim "65mm wider track width") and only refers to the difference in width of the RS from wheel face to opposite wheel face compared to a standard Focus with 6.5" wide wheels, and this is only in the rear. The difference in "actual" track width is indeed only +20mm front/+27mm rear.
