The first generation known as phase 1 had a metal cam cover scribed with Zetec-S, the later phase 2 engine had a plastic cam cover with Zetec-SE printed on it. They are both the same engine to all intents and purposes and are interchangable it's just the phase two has some internal differences like valves etc.

The same engine can be found in the Fiesta Zetec S.

That's good because I can find plenty of se engines I'n the scrap yard.
Any ideas if it's easier to take the engine out with the box or leave it I'n the car an just split it.

Thanks

Yes it's the same engine mate just different names on the cam cover, plenty refer to the engine as the Zetec-S for both guises.

Woulden't know about the removal, although I should think leaving the box in situ would be easier as then you just have the engine to worry about.

The SE i'm sure is a little bit stronger in the bottom end side of things. The silver tops tend to have bottom end issues.
