Default Whine from engine Comp?

Hey,

I've got a 07 Plate Focus Zetec 1.6

When I start car from cold, everythings OK. But after driving for 10mins, at a standstill and in Neutral I'm hearing a highish pitched whine/hum inside the car.. prob coming from under bonnet. It increases in pitch as you rev.

Checked all normal stuff: fans off, aircon off, watertemp gauge normal at midway.

Could this be alternator, or accessory belt problem? How could I narrow this down?

Thanks

K!

Likely to be the alt, next time it does it put the heated lecky rear window on and other lecky bits see if the note changes as the alt is loaded up, another thing you can do is disconnect the auxillary(fan) belt and run for a short while say 20-30 secs.

I did this when I had that problem before when I just installed some ford oem parts. My uncle taught me this. I started the engine and opened the hood; then I took a piece of wood about 2"x2"x2' and I touched one end to various engine components(power steering pump, water pump, alternator, ac compressor, etc) while touching the other end to your ear. sound moves through the block of wood faster than air, so when you touch the component making the noise you should be able to hear it much louder through the block of wood. But keep this in mind: do not stick the block of wood in any moving parts

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Update...

Doesn't seem to be alternator. If it was the clutch thrust bearing, would the noise alter when I pressed the clutch in? (it's a manual gear box)

Cheers!

My 1.6 does this, but it's the clutch release bearing I think, as it stops when I push clutch down. Although, mine makes so many noises, I don't worry about that one
