Default Changing front grill

Hi guys. 1st post here .
Im the owner of an 97 Focus (1.8 TDi Sport) and im slowly looking to change its appearence, more towards the ST and will probably be asking many more questions. if thts alright.

First one however is in regards to how most Fords Bonnets ope. Im sure like many, i swivel the front Ford badge up and stick the key in. Just wondering though, if i was to remove this grill and replace with a plain black grill like THIS one. How do i go about opening it?

Not so long agop i tried taking off this section of the grill only to find the whole locking system attached.

Thanks in advanced for any help

Darren

Welcome to PF

With a badge-less grill, your key should just fit through the mesh of the grill & still go in the lock. Personally, I would paint the bit around the lock (thats body coloured) black as it will show throught the grill.

Yes, but if i was to buy a new grill, that didnt have the oval cut out for the badge, how do i attached the mechanisim if you catch my drift. From what i remember, when i tried to remove the grill few months back i could because the hook part of the bonnet was attached to the rear side of the grill whih effectlively goes into this lock.

And yes, Id paint the grill panther black like body too

I fitted chrome 'collection' grill when I had my Focus. The grill shouldnt be connected to the lock mechanism at all. The grill is held on in 4 places, 2 screws at the top and 2 hooks at the bottom.

Might try and take a pic for you then cos it definitely wont budge. I know of the screws you speak, thats all i thought i would need to remove in order to completely remove grillbut then come across this problem.

Also,
Rather than starting another thread. Would a spoiler from a 3dr ST fit my dr focus. I know 3dr skirts etc differ in size but what about spoilers?

Thanks for the iniital help

Hopefully be the same concept tho. All i need to know now is if the ST spoiler from a 3dr will fit my 5dr? Have to go away for the day and gunna stick a bid on one on ebay but diknt want to risk winning it if it wont fit.

Pheww cos i stuck a bid on before i set off for the day yesterday and won. Will need to get it sprayde but nabbed it for £60 p+p all in.
Was outbid by £2 on a set of coil over springs but i can pick them up anytime really. The spoiler will be the 1st of a few cosmetic changes at last.

How about another few questions while im at it .

Could i straight swap m front bumper to that of an ST. Dimensions all look the same. Reason being i like the upper and lower mesh style grill and th neatness of the front fogs. Probably change the rear bumper in due course too.
