Default What oil type and any tips on oil change?

Am doing an Oil change on my 2005 1.6 Focus tomorrow. Not sure what oil to get though? 5w30? 10w40?

Any special instructions for the oil change or is it just the standard method?

Cheers dude.

I'm sure I've got some 10w40 knocking about and was hoping to use that. Not much between them so may well still use it

Crikey, dont use 10/40, it'll knacker the hydraulic lifters in no time!

Ford petrol engines are designed for 5/30.....

the 10 w40 is to thick for the tappets it will be like treacle and will cause sticky valve cindrome and not open the valves properly or worse cases drop a valve into the pistions or knacker the oil pump up

you should never engine flush a ford engine in fact any engine as it takes the dirty/carbon build up and moves it around and could block a oil gallery or knacker up the oil pump !!!
thats why you dont do it, cost lots of money to fix all because of Ł3.99 bottle of crap was used so big no no no !!

As said above really 10W-40 is too think and causes sticky valves.

And as for engine flush, general consensus always been unnecessary as if you change the oil regularly enough, use decent quality oil and rev your engine properly then everything will be fine.

What oil are you using and have you flushed the engine before?

if i was you change the oil and filter see if it clears up if not sounds like a valve stem oil seal gone down or a piston ring still means a rebuild either way

As said above get that oil out of there and get proper 5W-30 in. Get a cheapo 5W-30 in for 1000miles first and then drain it and refill with a decent 5W-30 and see what happens.

putting 10w40 in properly has killed that engine !!!!!
silly thing to do really for the sake of Ł24 pound for some 5w30 its going to cost more like Ł500 to rebuild the head ,like i said same as the other change the oil see how it goe's

hmm right change the oil and filter see how it goes if it doesn't clear strip the head down and check oil the valves make sure they are not burnt out replace all the oil stems seals and replace the tappets

is your blk top or silver top zetec ?
if blk top engine will have to re shim it as they are soild tappets
if silver top is hydraulic its a straight followed swop over but use proper assemably paste on the job too on both engines what ever you run also use a std ford head gasket and make sure get the head lightly skimmed
