Default focus cruise control

hi all,
i've just bought a 2002 focus ghia 2.0 auto (for the missus!).
it comes with all the toys, including climate and is a really nice drive.
i just have 1 question about it that hopefully somebody will be able to answer!
it came with a ford leather stering wheel, with cruise control buttons on it, but they don't work!
now i just don't know weather they don't work because it may not be the original wheel, or was cruise standard on the 2.0 ghia?
i've also been told that if the battery is disconnected for a long period this can cause it to stop working? does anyone know if this is true?
thanks in advance.

Have a look at the throttle body, if it has 2 accelerator cables attached to it, then yes, it has cruise control

do you have any other ideas please?
cheers

Lots of things are needed to make it work and as a result, lots of things will stop it.

A few;

C-C Deactivator switch, (on the brake pedal)
Horn switch
Brake light switch
Speed control switch on steering wheel, either On off = + - faulty
Control servo faulty or loose connector which may also have been removed by someone to disable it.

You've had a malfunction of the seat to steering wheel interface
