Default Poor BHP on focus st170

I took my car to the ford focus rolling road day in N.ireland hoping for 180bhp at least with it superchipped and a k and n induction kit,

Only to find out of 3 runs it was 145 bhp and 153bhp without the bluefin,

What could be wrong with this?

unchip it and take the k&n off. Put it back to standard and then try it on the rollers and if its still showing a low figure then you should take it down to your local ford dealer as it still should be under warranty.

Have heard a rumour that some of the earlier cars (pre-53 plate) had a software problem and were running low on power. Should be coverd under warranty and i understand that they just re program your ecu.

Too right. I've heard them running low power (like 160ish) but not that low

Mines a 53 plate and just had it RR'ed at 168.7bhp @ just under 7000 rpm - its completely standard BTW. They should be 168bhp (173ps). I would hope for a realistic 175bhp with your mods though !

Is this standard Ali ??

What was your horse power at the wheels?
On mine - losses measured at 33.5bhp - so 135.2bhp @ wheels

I was after an SVT out here in the states. Test drove a few and it didnt even feel like 140bhp let alone 170. I'm hoping to buy one of the 2.3 Duratec's this week. Looks like a std 3dr Focus but 150bhp and more torque than the SVT/ST and lower down too. OK no trick brakes or 6 speed box but for $9000 (Late 2003 model) you can't complain - thats about what 5.5 grand in GBP?

There was a know issue with the bluefin on the early cars, but thats all fixed now.

Check that you have the correct maps on the BF.

My 03 plate ST170 is currently putting out 191 this is down to some major mods they include a Scorpion exhaust, K&N Typhoon induction kit and a fast flow cat.

It was putting out 210 with the cat out by the management light on the dash kept coming on which meant the engine limited the power anyway.
