Default 1999 1.6 Zetect stuttering while accelerating.

Ho Folks,

I have a 1999 Zetec which has suddenly started to stutter heavily while accelerating. When the problem started the other day it was only in 2nd gear and up through 4th. Then it went away completely for a day yesterday and today it is back worse than ever. The car stutters all the way from 1st through 5th. It feels like theres no power in 2nd and then suddenly it will kick in and then go back to spluttering again and feeling like it is losing power.

The car also seems to be idling a bit low.

Any idea's?

Coilpack!

Common on the Zetec-SE.

I read that on another site also, thanks. How expensive would something like that be to have fixed? Baring in mind that I would have to have it done by a mechanic.

It's very, very easy to do yourself.

So shouldn't cost a lot by a mechanic!

I think it costs about £87 for the coilpack, (I think!) and I imagine it'd cost about £10 labour!

Thanks. Let's hope that is really what it is. I'll take it over tomorrow to see if they can either order in the part or fix it there and then.

This has been a poor weekend as far as my focus goes. I'm currently working abroad and only on friday I rolled down my passenger window for it to make a horrible crunching sound and then not roll back up again. It's currently fixed in place and can't be moved but they have quoted me over 300 quid to replace the motor and cabling.
