Default focus rs ABS problem

the ABS light wont go off

i know i posted this in general discussion too but i really need to find out for mot purposes

bled all the brakes.....twice

the only thing that i can think of now is that after the crash the drivers side abs lead got sheared in two by the calliper.....got a new one, wired it up but the lights still on

would the brain need re-setting because its registered a fault in the past? like it does if the airbag goes off?

cheers, andy

yes mate brain does need resetting but if you take off battery lead for about 15 mins that sometimes clears it and its all ok then but doesnt always work but defo worth a try ok!

I've got a similar problem with mine with the traction control light on. I have swapped the faulty part but the light is still illuminated.

I have tried the hard reset method by disconnecting the battery, so i'm now left with booking it in to Frauds @ £70 plus VAT to get it on their machine.

Have you checked that your ABS sensor is sat flush and connected up firmly?

I'd try disconnecting the battery for 20 mins first and see what happens from there. Make sure you know your radio code before you do it though.

hi guys on some of the older focuses i know that you can sometimes do an ecu reset also by putting the ignition on an off 3 or 4 times in quick succession you should here a bing if this has happened this may also help to sort your problem without the aid of paying for it to be reset!
best of luck guys hope it saves you paying out!

Have you had either of the drive shafts pulled out recently?

This is a relpy i had to my post on another forum

'hi mate i had both my drive shafts changed and when i got car back the abs /esp light was on so i pulled the boss, and he said yeah we noticed that so they stuck comp on and it was sayin o/s wheel sensor so they wanted 150 quid off me 4 new sensor.. i took the risk and bought a abs sensor from scrap yard 4 £20 bingo the light went off and not been back on'

Could be worth having a look to see if the sensors are sat in the hubs correctly.

I'm popping in to Fords tomorrow so i'll let you know how i get on.

Well after a trip to Ford my problems has been fixed (fingers crossed ) I had the car on the IDS machine and ran through a few things, it doesn't like Omex and had a few fault codes come up because of that.

Having tried to clear the DTC's the light was still on, it turned out that the steering wheel angle sensor has to the calibrated by turning the steering wheel through a few angles whilst running the tests through the IDS.

Since doing that the light hasn't returned in over 100 miles and comes on and goes off with the ESP switch.

id say the normal action is to get you codes read and then rest the place i work at charge £40 to read and rest codes you dont need to take it to fords and get charged £70 plus vat for the same job lol

focuschivvy
i would not get you ecu remap just for a abs warning light try reading codes first hope it helps
