Default Are They The Same Engine ?

Hi Guys
I know this is a silly question, but, here goes.I went on EBay looking for a few bits for my car.And for you that have used ebay you know that on some items you put your car year ,type , and engine size and when you look for a part it tells you if it will fit..Well apparently My Ghia Saloon 1.8 isn't the same as the 1.8 Hatch..because it always comes back that it won't fit my car ?
I am totally baffled by this

The silvertop is the 1600 as fitted to the later Escorts, AFAIK there is only one variation of the 1800 and they all had a plastic cam cover.

If this is true, then it will be an age related thing.

For a given engine it's the same across the board, regardless of body type.

Later 1600's had the revised 'phase two' engine, nevertheless though it's still the same engine.

I guessed you might have been using the compatibility chart in Ebay, don't take much notice of this, it isn't accurate!
