Default Imrc making strange noise

Hi guys, my car has been suffering from the annoying lack of power most of us st170 owners get around 4-5k rpm. Where the car just holds back and doesn't pick up any real sort of speed.
Had the imrc apart the week end and all seemed ok. Cable connected both to pulley inside imrc and to inlet manifold. Manually operated the pulley on inlet manifold to check was moving freely. All ok. Notice that the cog on the motor inside the imrc was not sitting properly and would not engage the other gearing( cogs) when engine running. So pushed it in placed reconnected everything and took car out for test drive. Car runs beautiful now no hesitation what so ever and I don't have any flat spot at 2000rpm that I did before. What I do now have is a grinding noise every time I turn the engine on or off. Only when I turn the key. Sounds to me like the the motor inside the imrc is now catching on something?? It's a very noticeable noise. Best way to describe it is like when your car is running and you key the key in ignition and hear starter motor stretching ?
Strange one as the car runs lovely.
Any one had this issue before as I can't find a similar post?

It's the gears inside the imrc box again. Had it on my old st170. Best bet is to replace, common fault on these!

The imrc was only replaced in may this year at a cost of over £500 all in. I never owned the car at the time but surely there will be a warranty with it. As it shouldn't be faulty so soon. It's a brand new item
