Default Ford Focus Mk1 heater problem

Hi ,

Looking for a bit of help with a Focus heater problem.

The blower works, albeit only on 1, 2 & 3, but getting no warm air through the heater. The engine isn't overheating, and when moving the temperature control there is a noticeable change in air flow when going from hot to cold on the dial, the directional control also works fine.

What I have tried so far.

Replaced the thermostat.
Flushed the engine
Backflushed the pipes to the heater from the engine.
Bypassed the booster heater.

All the electrics seem ok, no blown fuses or anything like that.

Starting to get a bit cold in the mornings now, so would like to get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Thanks in advance,

Johnny

If you take off both pipes that run from the engine to the heater matrix can you flow water through them? Only thing I would suggest is a blocked heater matrix.

Already done that.

I removed the hose from where the water coming out of the heater would flow back to the engine and attached a garden hose. Water was flowing fine when running in the direction that would take it back through the heater and out through the inlet hose.

I attached the hoses back up, refillled the engine with water/anti-freeze and ran the engine till it reached normal running temperature. Still no heat from the heater, and as usual the controls all appear to be ok. Directional works, and still a noticable change in airflow when going from hot to cold and back. The heater inlet hose, from the engine, warmed up as you would expect. The outlet hose, back to the engine, stayed cold.

I have removed the underside of the dash on the drives side and checked the operation of the heater control and directional flaps. All ok.

You should have water flowing through the matrix all the time so if one hose is hot and one is cold that would suggest to me that water is not flowing, I would still be looking at the matrix. Maybe try pulling it out and flushing it through or even replace with a second hand one, they are cheap enough on ebay.

OP says it works on the lower speeds, so clearly the resistor pack is fine!
