Default Headlight bulbs blowing

My mate noticed both his dip beams weren't working, changed the bulbs after discovering both dip beam were blown.

Both new bulbs then blew within a few mins of each other.

Anyone had this before?

Sure I've seen something for Focus where there are resistors available from Ford to stop frequent headlamp bulbs blowing.

What year Focus?

Mine was forever blowing bulbs as the voltage jumps to just under 17 when the heated screen was turned off. Tried all makes of bulbs and no difference until I used FORD bulbs. They were extortionately priced and not as bright as some of the others but have lasted almost a year so far...

2001 diesel.

Just the dip beam, both sides. Must be something common to both. Relay or alternator knackered maybe.

It has other gremlins too. Dash does funny stuff too sometimes.

Could be a charging fault, needs checking out.

Resistor I mentioned is for the later 2004> Focus/Cmax/Kuga and 2008> Fiesta.

I can't find out anything about this resistor, do you mean alternator regulator?

There's a Ford TSB about headlamp bulbs blowing frequently on 2004> (mk2) Focus/Cmax/Kuga and 2008> Fiesta.

There are resistors that plug into the headlamp.

It's not applicable to a mk1 Focus.
