Default Ignition barrel problem!

Hi All,
this is my first posting here so here go's.

I have just bought a 2003 Focus 1.6 Zetec LX, when I turn the ignition key from position II to position III the engine starts fine but the key does not 'flick back' to position II, I have purchased a new barrel but after trying to turn the keys in it before fitting into the car find that they turn freely as well with no return to position II.
I inquired at my local Ford dealers and they told me that the key spring return part was build into the ignition/steering column, replacement cost £585!

Is this correct or is there another part with the 'spring' part in?

Thank you anyone for your help.

Richard

Yes, that's correct, the spring is in the barrel housing.

Get a second hand column from a breakers, loads of mk1 Focus being crapped/broken now.
