Default Mk1 Focus fitting electric mirrors

Hi,

My Focus doesn't have leccy mirrors, but i've got the chance to buy some pretty cheap. If i fit them, is the wiring there for them already?

depends

you may have to buy the leccy mirror loom and then patch it into your door for starters and then go from there

What model (exactly) and year is it?
Is it a Mk1 or 1.5?

Lots of "original" Mk1's had the "full" wiring loom, but taking the door apart (a bit) would confirm.

1 out of 2 doesn't help.

Sorry, half asleep. Its an LX, no fogs, no leccy mirrors, air con, front leccy windows only.

In that case it's "probably" got the wiring loom in place, but you'll need to take the door cards off to look for the plugs, they should be taped up somewhere just below the mirror mounting.
Can't recall the exact design, but they are not that big.

Ok, cool, i'll have a look next week - i'm putting some new speakers in and soundproofing (or trying to) the doors, so will be an ideal time to do it then.

Cheers!

You will probably need to change the door loom over as there was lots of different ones depending on weather you had 2 or 4 electric windows, global closing, electric / heated mirrors etc. The car loom should be the same though.

I've tried the global opening/closing setup but it doesn't work on my car - could this be a clue as to wheather the leccy mirrors will/will not work without a new door loom?

global opening/closing needs the windows set to one shot operation before it will work

Mind dosen't have the wiring within the door, but when I swapped the door over with a car that had a leccy wingmirror it worked. The car has the wiring in place, I just don't think the doors do.
I do wonder if it's the same for rear leccy windows too?

Is there a way of checking the loom in my doors to see if they will operate leccy mirrors, I.e, should there be a plug with a certain amount of wires?

if you find the actual plug that plugs onto the mirror hidden in the door, that will be a big hint mate

Just in case you haven't sorted this yet. I've just done it to mine. Mine's a 51 Mk 1 CL. Main loom in car has the wiring right up to the socket in the front pillar. Doors don't have the wires though. I bought 2 front door looms from cars with leccy mirrors, and stripped out the wiring for the mirrors (had to work out which ones by looking at plug on mirrors and checking the wiring diagram). drivers side has some extra wiring (for switch). had to cut up the loom plug to get the connectors out so that I could fit them to my loom plug. (they're just a push fit). Wired it all in and they work fine!

I tried it on a 51 plate cl, i had the looms, the mirror control and the window switch from the old focus i had which was a 2000 ghia. Fitted them fine, windows still work but mirrors dont move checked all connections and fuses etc and all are fine. Anyone have any idea why it doesnt work the mirrors. Just to add this isnt a cl lx its just the cl version
