Default Got a problem with my S2....help!

I have an imtimitant problem with my car. Sometimes when i am stationary the cars starts to judder quite violiently. I have found it only does it in 1st gear though, if its knocked into neutral or 2nd/3rd etc its fine. so, im guessing its either the clutch or gearbox.

has anyone any ideas?. im hoping i just need to tighten something up lol.

if it helps, its the original clutch from new.

thanks for your help people

Run this past me again, when your STATIONARY, the car judders, but if you knock it out of gear it stops,

Do you mean on over-run as you are slowing down to stop??

ok, senario time. im driving up to a set of traffic lights on red. i stop in 1st with the clutch engaged. the car judders/shakes really badly. to stop it all i need to do is put the car in neutral or any other gear whilst stationary. when i move off its fine. its really puzzleing as it shouldnt matter what gear im in with the clutch engaged....should it.

ok you've assumed right then, sounds like the springs are going on the clutch.

Strange though, usually the car will just try to "creep" forward. When you engage the clutch, and try to select first is it difficult to get in, and also does it crunch REALLY bad going in to reverse?

well i forgot to add the fact that when i engage reverse the gearbox sorts or shakes the car and first is sometimes nearon impossible to engage as is third on occasions. so, does that mean a replacement clutch. and how much hard earned are we talking here

Ummmmm, shaking??????? That doesnt sound good, usually shaking like that is gearbox bearings or similar. Well, it could just be that the clutch isnt engaging properly, these cars have auto-adjusters on the clutch pedal, and theyre prone to go, mines gone and the biting point is always moving.

To be honest though if the clutch is original as u say i expect it is that. My 1.6i Orion is on 105000 miles and is on the original, mine however is getting to the point of slipping, where as yours it sounds like the Thrust bearing/diaphram springs are going.

What mileage is yours?

The clutches are peanuts, look on eBay you'll get a 3rd party clutch KIT for about Ł30, but its the fitting bit, if u can do it yourself your laughing, if not this is where it gets pricey paying some other monkey to fit it......

luckily i know of a monkey who does nice price. i'll just get him to check everywhere around that area. my biting point have moved from the bottom to the top since i got it about 2 months ago.

thatnk you very much for your help, it really is much appreciated. you're a top guy!! cheers!

If your biting point has moved that much it may well be your ratchet and pawl assembly (auto adjuster). What mileage is the car, and no disrespect, do you ramp the f*ck out of it lol

the mileage is 65k. but it did 300 miles from nov 04- nov 05, since then its done 1600k so problems arise when things start getting used. i give it some strap every so often but dont give the clutch much stick. its standard 132bhp, so not putting any excess strain on it

Hmmmmm well 65k is quite good, turbos wear things out a lot quicker.

Well if i were you i'd get yourself a new ratchet and pawl lifter set (again ebay they are cheap, or get to ford and get a genuine one should be cheap enough) and even if its not that u can bet it would go anyway and for what its costs its worth while changing it.

If it is the springs/thrust bearing going it will be noticeable in the pedal. What does yours feel like, the clutches on these usually feel very nice, very easy and smooth, and when so far down u should be able to positively feel the pedal fully engage the clutch. If its going the pedal will feel hard and springy, and when engaging it will progressively get harder then suddenly "snap" and go easy...

No problem we're all here to help each other. If your guna change the clutch i'd do that ratchet and pawl lifter aswell, mines well annoying every so often u hear it click and the clutch goes back to how it should be momentarily, most of the time pushing the clutch 1mm is the difference between engaged and disengaged

Now is the ideal time to uprate for you....maybe just a high grip, rather than a paddle, just be a bit more up to taking some stick Just for reference yours will be a 220mm clutch, and buy a whole kit

Best of luck mate let me know if u get stuck or need any help
