Default Steering Coloumn and TCA's

Has anyone had a problem with lots of play in the top of the coloumn, as in the bit between the steering wheel and the first knuckle??

Mine moves up and down slightly and you can turn it a bit without it doing anything to the wheels, sounds fucked but just wondering how much a new one is

Also does anyone know how much for a set of TCA's and are they a twat to fit on a S2???

Thanks people

oh right, should it move up and down though?

Its just i have got a really bad vibration/shake coming through it at high speeds.

And its not wheel balancing, brakes, wheel bearings

There is a bush and a bearing in the coloumn behind the steering wheel mine was the same lots of play in the steering wheel and vibration at higher speeds mine also had a very vague feeling though the steering changed every thing on the front end then found these which cost about a fiver from fords and the problem was solved. You need to ask for the tolerance bush and bearing that sits behind the steering wheel should take about half hour to fit

Sorry to threadjack......

I have replaced my steering column bushes but there is play in the white colar bush which sits between the steering column and the top bracket which secures the whole assembly to the bulkhead. Ford have said that I have no chance of getting a replacement for this and I'd be better off trying to pack it out with black nasty.

TCA's cost me £40 a pair from local motor factors.

You can push a nail in between the white colar bush and the steering column. I did it like this. Sounds silly maybe , but it works, no more up and down play.

Bush should still be available i got one from fords in febuary this year part no 6147076 for the tolerance ring and 6147075 for the bearing at a total cost of £3.47. Unless they have stopped doing them cause of the age of the car.
