Remove the plastic breather pipe that goes from the breather filter (back left) behind the inlet manifold and down to the metering head. If this gets any leaks it can upset things.

Remove the air filter box and while a mate is cranking it over depress the metering head flap lightly and see if it fires into life.

Does it have spark?

Is it getting fuel?

when you turn on the ignition you should hear the feul pump prime (its quite loud) try turnin it over, then remove the plugs and see if there wet. make sure the leads are on in right order. then check if theres a spark.

failing that, it could be the metering head, coil, dizzy.

have you tried push startin the car and forcin the engine to turn?

you could have a fooked cam,
?

hope this helps

kinda sounds like my problem. mine went to fire and then just turned over...leave 5 mins it would do the same, fuel pump not kicking in.

1. new fuel relay got the pump going, and changed the earth screw in the drivers speaker well.

2. after 3 weeks of the garage trying to get the car going, we jumped it, it jumped started 1st time..i gave it a 40mph 6mile drive, not boosting the car.
now she starts 1st time on the key...so must have needed the engine going to push compressed air out and bleed the fuel lines i suppose.

give it a go mate...nothing to lose!!

I had a bit of a starting problem which was down to a number of things - dodgy fuel pump, was running far too rich and the timing was out. also the fuel pump relay was getting a bit dodgy. might recommend changing the relay first as its the cheapest option at about Ł25.

hope this helps

Compression+spark+fuel=running engine. All the other things mentioned
above will just mean it'll run badly.
Easiest way to isolate problem (assuming there's compression and the previous owner hasn't done something daft like fitting cam belt incorrectly)
is to remove the hose leading to the throttle butterfly + get a mate to spray some 'easystart' into the inlet whilst you turn it over.
Easy start is like an enviromental disaster in a can and will start ANY
engine. If it runs then dies when you stop spraying it's a fuel problem
(You have checked there's fuel in it not just relied on your fuel gauge)
if it doesn't fire it's igniton.
Hope this helps good luck.

P.S.
If it is Ben's, the guy to speak to is Jamie at Jamsport cos he's recently fiited a whole new management system to it, which if it is an ignition problem
might make sense.
