Default Considerations for high powered S2's

Was interested on what peoples opinions are when it come to building a high powered s2, im thinking of 300+ bhp.

Apart from the engine / gearbox, what would be on your list of things to do, such as :

1) Any body strengthening?
2) Are driveshafts up to the job?
3) Rose jointed TCA's?
4) Suspension / Coilovers
5) etc...

What would you do in order to do it properly ?

Better do the clutch and engine mounts properly the first time round.

What you planning for yours???? road use or track only?

Or both?

Im planning for a 300+ engine in the near future

But its going to be a full on track car!

My shell is being seem stitched on the underside/engine bay and arches

16 point Weld in cage

Coilovers

Adj TCA's

Fully adjustable suspension front an rear....

wont be very nice to drive on the road i would imagine, but i dont want it for the road....

I was thinking for road use really, although still interested in what you would do if your building it for track.

Brakes, Bernies heavy duty gearbox, good suspension setup, adjustable tca's all round, stronger anti roll bar, one hell of an engine, one of the best intercoolers on the market, no worries about fuel cost's, a good tuner, erm, a patient girlfriend lol

A good cooling set up,as alot of RST's have over heating prob's.Plus an abillity to drive a powerfull FWD car would be an advantage too .Regards Micky

hic are good for insurance, they do agrred valuations as well.

mine 25obhp rs is £451 for the year and valued at £7000 (wish i could sell it for that lol)

when i fitted my roll cage it actually lowered the cost by £80.

the staff are also fairly well educated

I've got both my RS's insured through HIC and they have been excellent. Pretty good on the Escort on a classic policy with an agreed value and the FRST on a Fully Comp policy with agreed value. Best bit is I asked about Zetec Turboing it and it would only cost an extra £166 a year to insure

What did you tell them? just that you are gonna drop a 2.1 zetec in, or did you have to get any more specific like the power output / any uprated internals etc???

Also, to be fully legal, I presume you should be informing the DVLA? But would this mean you would go onto a Q plate ?

Told them exactly what I was planning with a guestimated power output and the guy did the rest. Yes I would need to notify the DVLA of the capacity and engine type change but that would be no reason for it to go on a Q plate otherwise any car that had a new engine fitted would be liable for Q plating.

Mind you it's all pretty irrelevent as it looks like it will be staying CVH now

Is Q plating done by a kind of points scheme ? Im glad that it wouldnt need to go on a Q plate.

Insurance is pretty easy. I have mine on a classic, so that limits me from the start, RS Owners Club insurance won't touch me, but Adrian Flux were more than happy to take my £13,000 agreed value and 300+ bhp
