Fuel consumption on ERST
What kind of mpg do you guys get in your scort RSs's?
Only had mine since last sat, but i am finding it very heavy on juice, i'm not pushing it hard either, and i cant smell any fuel leaks, i am getting roughly 60 miles to 20 quid, which cant be right
Any ideas? its practicaly standard, with only an exhaust, panel filter, dv, bleed valve set at 10psi.
I need to use it as an everyday car, but with this sort of consumption, i'm having worries i wont be able to keep it.

It has been recently set up at frankenstien motorsport, the exhaust manifold is blowing slightly, but i didnt think it would make such a big difference?
its depressing me, i dont want to use it cos its costing too much

Not sure mate, i bought it a few weeks after it was setup on RR, made 138bhp on 10psi with mods above.
I am a RS virgin, what is the metering unit? Will the manifold gasket make that sort of decrease in mpg?
Will check all the boost hoses for leaks, any other checks i can do?

Think i may have it, been out with the carb cleaner, spraying all the joints, the hose that comes off the turbo & goes to the air filter(i think it goes there, wasnt paying much attention), i sprayed it & noticed a small drop in revs, kept spraying it & it died.
Now, can one hose cause all these problems? or is it likely to be something else aswell?

took all the boost pipes off, noticed there was oil in most of them, is this normal?
Also found it isnt the manifold blowing, the 90 degree bend from the turbo to the system, there are two nuts & bolts holding it together, well, only one in my case, this will explain the massive air leak, and to cap it off, the bold hasnt just fallen out, its snapped in the hole, balls.
How do i solve this, drill it & tap it? or get a new 90degree? i have heard the bolts/nuts holding the turbo onto the 90, and manifold to the turbo are prone to snapping, but i think it may be leaking from there too, is there an easy fix?

All leaks need to be sorted.
It's very common to setup RS Turbo's up rich by people who really should no better. The fuel pressure will prpbably be too high. Oil in the hoses is due normally to 2 things. If its very rich, you'll get petrol in the oil, and ot starts seeping past all the seals. The std breather system breaths back into the metering head, so as an engine gets older, more oil appears in the inlet. Sort this by getting a breather that breathers to atmosphere.
Thirdly, but v unlikely, is that oil is seeping past the turbo seal into the compressor housing.

So get the fuelling checked, and would one of those baily breather systems be worth getting?
When the hoses were off, i checked for play in the turbo shaft, a little movment up & down, none in & out, is this ok?
There is oil all through the hoses, from the turbo through to the crossover pipe.
On the rr report it said the fuel pump was faulty, so an uprated one was fitted, possible it has been overfueling?

Turbo sounds fine. A fuel pump wont make it overfuel, as it's controlled by a pressure regulator. A Bailey type breather is a very good idea, even on a std car.
Fuelling needs looking at. I highly recommend you get it to Motorsport Developments in Blackpool.

Have solved the problem, at least, it looks that way, after taking all the boost hoses off, cleaning them & the mating surfaces, putting them back on nice & tight, then going for a run, the needle didnt move at all, and i did 30 miles, which should of emptied what was left in the tank!
Tried drilling the bolt out, but i went through 8 drill bits, and all it did was dent it, think i will invest in some titanium tipped jobbies, then nut & bolt it.
Still running a little rough, but my god, it pulls so much better on boost, i crapped myself when it boosted in 3rd, so cant wait for the exhaust to be sorted, should be loads better, then just need my IC fitted, get it chipped & get fueling checked & i will be sorted
Then its onto the bodywork

They do VERY good chips. As part of a setup, the whole intake system is pressurised for air leaks, so u'll be sorted.

Stage 1: 180 Bhp.
This is a same day service and can be performed while you wait.
Approx time to complete is 3 hours.
By reprogramming the engine management system to allow more boost pressure, and safer timing, we can carefully raise the Boost pressure to 15 psi & gain a very substantial increase in power and torque.
Maximum power of 180 Bhp is now produced. To achieve this we use our own chip and a new Garrett wastegate actuator that is much stronger than the original item.
The whole system is setup and checked to ensure everything is working as it should before we ask more power of it, then the finished conversion is road tested and fine tuned for maximum performance, drivability and reliability.
This conversion costs £300.00 fitted.

Mine already has a -31 act, so you recon they will do it cheaper, or would it be best to let them change that aswel?
Also, i will have a pace replacment IC on by next weekend, will this make it a bit better?

It will be cheaper if you don't need to change your actuator. They'll happilly leave yours on if it is working fine - again it will be tested before hand.
The intercooler will defo improve things, they can set the boost to around 18psi, and you are looking around 200bhp on a healthy engine.
They are busy though, so call them ASAP and they can book it in for whenever you think it will be ready - otherwise u may be waiting. Call them up, ask to speak to Stu - say Rick sent you - he's a good friend of mine

The pace isnt a full size job, its just the 1/2 size, so not sure if i want that much boost?
Will give them a ring, cheers for the info
May get a piper cam ordered aswell, see how much for them to fit & time it up & chip it
