I thnk everyone's got their different opinions on decomp plates. i've been running one for the past year running 17psi of boost with no problems what so ever. Wellseal seems to do the job. Good engine builders have been using it for years as it can withstand alot of pressure.

good point , i can certainly echo that , between havin a 3 year old , a newborn baby and a wedding next year i will make do with alternative methods of lowering compression . I cant justify spending Ł500 on a set of pistons for an engine that may still go pop.
fair doos the engine may still let go and i need to buy another but i will cross that bridge when i come to that one

I've been using mine for the past year without a fault. It all depends on the stuff you use and how clean you are when you put your engine back together. Providing you don't go too mad with the boost it will be fine.

I think u've got your head in the sand, a decompression plate is a perfectly good method - granted it wont take the same abuse a set of low comp pistons will - but not everyone needs to run high boost. There are many many cars running decomp plates without problems.
It's like you're saying an rs turbo is a bodge unless its got aeroquip fittings throughout.
As for wellseal i have no idea how good it is or otherwise but...

"Good engine builders have been using it for years as it can withstand alot of pressure"

So u'd imagine it would do the trick, i think it puts an image of a "no more nails" type product in your head but obviously its not.

Erm DECOMP PLATE YEAAH!

as i see it if your gonna do it, do it properly, and dont use no more nails.

i doubt Jamie@jamsport, Karl Norris, Harvey Gibbs, Steve Scott etc use wellseal, no-more-nails, wallpaper paste etc...

if you know differant let me know, ill then know who to avoid!

u seem to be missing the point. No one is saying that a decomp plate is better than low comp pistons. just that when on a budget, it is an alternative.

why dont i do as i like??

if pointless moaning was worth ŁŁŁ then you lot (the clever diks who altho thay havent got it still are adament that its no good even if its proven to be perfectly acceptable) would make me enuff to buy all the worlds supply of low comp pistons

my question was answered i asked for no more than that

I thought the point of this forum was to help people not to argue over silly little things. It's up to the individual person what they do with their car.

i wont be cryin u muppet, you seem to be the 1 doin that, if it fuks up, and its doubtful it will as there are many success storys, not 1 that says it didnt work for them i mite add

so IF it fuks up, ill just do sumthin else, matters not to me ive got a stack of good rs engines if i wanna just bung another in, i dont so ill do this

its the 'listern to me i know it all and wont listern to any other way than mine' people that are the problem

he used a decompression plate and got away with it for ages then sold the car on too with no reported problems.

this car also had a magazine feature too.
