Dump Valves, cool or not?
Heu Guys.
Got myself a series one RS Turbo. Its already fitted with a Bailey dump valve. Which I think is cool, but the lads in work think their sad.
What do you think???

If you have loads of boost (30psi) then it's required. But just having one for the noise is gayer than Christmas
An Escort RST will also have problems as they really don't like to run with a DV

its not worth running on a car unless your running over 25psi boost and when i find rsts jerk when your comin on and off throttle and can be annoying

at the end of the day mate if you like it then have it
but if i was to have one id get one that doesnt go off until your on full boost coz theres nothing worse than one going off every time you let off. gets on my tits

Mine was on when i got her 11 months ago. Liked it at first but starting to get get a bit annoying now. Older people who don't know what they are turn round in the street and look at you when you come up behind them. They look at you like you are driving like maniac cos they can hear the noise, when in actual fact you are just driving like everyone else but just can't help the thing goin off ! Heard stories bout cars runnin crap when you take em off so leaving it on. Like it sometimes though when the right audience is lookin at the car ! ! !

As i said before... i always liked the sound of a DV... and i like the attention to it... everybody turning heads when you come thru with that sound.. and the airfilter is spitting and wheezing
but over here... a lot of people has begun to fit FAKE DV's on their cars without turbos.... thats some gay shit right there...
anyway... i think we have different opinions in Denmark and England.. seems like we do more for the attention than you do..

I like chatter better then the DV sound, but many people ar using them to get popular.... which they dont...
You should only put DV on if it is nessecery, on rs-t i would guess about 14psi an over...
Cosies have them standard, so they are escused
I have tryed 6 different on my car, but i use them to get performance AND protection to my engine/turbo....NOT sound

An Escort RST will get very minimal chatter unless it's been converted to EFi. The KE-Jetronic system does not like DV's as they introduce and air leak to the system that causes stalling, hesitation and other problems. You will do the turbo on these cars no damage at all by not having one and anybody telling you otherwise is a fool.
I have tried various different DV's and by far the best was to not bother so I don't have one at all and my Bailey twin piston valve is living in a box in the garage. The Escort runs at 25psi all day long and gets driven hard with no probs whatsoever.
The FRST has chatter and there is no way a DV will be going near it

I have tried with and with out a two piston dump valve, fully working and there was no difference in respons or anything else. You must have used a broken dump valve or a not suited one.

I have used three DV's on the car. A screw together diaphragm type a Bailey single piston and a Bailey twin piston. The twin piston was by far the best of the bunch but still had side effects so it was binned. I've owned my s2 for nearly a decade now and a lot of parts have come and gone as it's evolved.
Nothing to do with broken or unsuited valves, it's totally down to the way KE-Jetronic functions and it's inherrent inability to deal with air leaks in the system (which a DV creates).

The difference must be in your head. I felt nothing when I compared with and without a twin piston dv on the same testing session. There is no airleak when the throttle is open. The pressure that builds up when closing the throttle will slam the sensor plate shut when running high boost. And we all know this metering head is sensetive and is the mother of most of RS Turbo running problems.

i have had that exact problem too oranoco , this is why i choose not to use a dv , owning such a nice car is enough for me , and already gets plenty of attention, and usually the wrong kind!!

I love the sound of chatter... if i didnt have efi i would consider a dv.. only prob is that it is a bit of a scally thing... although when i see them on nice s2 i think they can sound mint. So if your not a scall its okay.

Stall at lights and run rough? Sorry, never experienced that the two years I have had the car. A quality twin piston dv in good condition do not cause any running problems.

I think dump valves sound nice but the reason i havent got one is bcos i do loads of driving on motorways and A roads and what i experienced with the dump valve is that when you come on and off throttle the car seems to be jerky which annoys me but otherwise when driving around town it seem to be okay no stalling just normal but with the sound also you gotta make sure you have the twin piston one.

I ran a dumpvalve up until a months ago or so and there IS a difference in the way the car respondes! Its so much smoother on gear change ,no jerking ect
My s2 is running 12psi (159bhp) and i could hear chatter(Still running Mfi) over the DV so i took it off and it sounds so much better!
Before anyone says " Ya metering head is fooked!" ive had it checked out and its in perfect condition!!!
My advice to everyone is take off the gay dump valve unless its really needed or your that desperate for attention that you need it
Nick
