Basically the head gasket went, so took the head off etc.
Refitted it all with a new thermostat etc and noticed now it will start slowly but surely making it's way into the red on the temp gauge.
When the head was off i changed the temperature sender for the gauge for a new one.
Today i installed a fan override switch, as it's been a bit warm lately thought it could be that but it doesn't make much difference.
I have got all the air locks out.
Now i'm a bit stuck, could it be the water pump???
On a series 1 btw.
Thanks in advance,
Mikey B

Yeah the head was all professionally skimmed, just weird how it's only been since i've put the head back on.
Could i have knackered the water pump puttin the Cam belt on??
Have had water pumping when i was bleedin the system of air.

Is the timing ok. I had the same problem. The car was running great but was hot all time this was due to the cam timing being out by one tooth.
Now I've sorted it out the car runs at about 1/4 of the temp gauge all the time.
Cheers

If your cam timing (effects ignition timing as the dizzy is on the end of the cam) is out or the distributor (ignition timing) is excessively retarded then it will run very hot...

The ignition timing is not excessively retarded i marked all of that up and it even matched the Ford Markings, The cam timing is spot on aswel.
Might just take it Goodes and get them too set it up properly.
