another problem with erst....
Hi all,
I have had a new distributor fitted today at my local rolling road and now the car has developed a problem
.......I havn't even picked it up yet !!!! When the guy rang me he said he had set the timing as to what he thought it should be at. He then tested it on the rollers and said it drove fine up to about 18 or 19psi and then it started popping & banging / missfiring. The car should hit and hold 22psi !! All the leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm are reasonably new so it wont be them, he did say that the air charge temperature went up to about 50 degrees as its inside etc.. where as I only see about 30 max on the road under boost, could it be something to do with this ? or could the timing be altered / advanced some more from where he has set it as to stop the missfiring etc at high boost ?
Duncan
p.s - I dont really understand 'timing' so forgive me if any of the above sounds a bit
!!!

from what ive read the act can go to about 60degrees before retardation(spelling)thats the temp the ecu has set!..unless changed!...
if the opp set the timing to what he thought it should be and its not running right..best he changes it!...
or take it for a rag outside let the temps drop see if that sorts it!if not back to the rollers!

update....Ive just collected it from the rolling road and I think I know what the problem is. He said it was doing it sometimes but not all the time. When I gave it some on the way back sometimes it would hit 22psi but other times it would only go to about 16 or 17psi and then not boost anymore and jolt etc..., as this was going on I could hear some hissing from the dump valve area so I wreckon the boost was pushing the piston up in the dump valve and boost was leaking out, anyway I'm going to blank it off and see what happens !!! report back soon
yeah I think it was mate ! I took off the dump valve and then blocked up both pipes, took it for a test blast and it hasn't done it since. Have to see if bailey do a stronger spring !
