Clock removal
Trying to remove the clocks from the S1 so that i can replace the bulbs. The back of it regards the speedo cable seems different from the one in the S2. I have managed to get the cable housing off the back, but the cable itself is still in the clocks on some sort of 'spring' ..well that's what it looks like anyway. Is this "out" now as I didn't want to pull it any further incase it wasn't and i ended up beaking something & having a non-working speedo..
In the S2 once the housing is off, the cable pulls away from the clocks themselves, but the S1 seems to be still attached via this 'spring' assembly.

Not quite sure what you mean by springy bit. But when the clocks are complete at the back you should have the cable with a white plastic ring around it which you squeeze to pull away from clocks, More often than not the metal cable gets stuck in the clocks so you have to pull that seperatly. to put it all back just do the reverse.
The 'springy' bit is the inner cable i think. i un-did the white plastic clip from the housing & when i gently pulled the clocks forward, the inner cable looked like it was pulling out of the outer sleeving. The inner cable looks like a spring as it has/is a coil of wire: hence why it looks like a spring. But I wasn't sure if that bit was supposed to stay in the clocks or come out of the housing itself.
From how you explained it, it looks like the inner cable is stuck in the housing & i'll have to pull it out. Wasn't sure if it was the same set-up as the S2 cos I've had the clocks in & out a few times and the cable has come out ok..but with this one being like this, didn't know if they were a different assemby.
Cheers mike.

Yep it is the inner cable that is stuck in there, Make sure you pull from as close to the clocks as poss. I have also found it easier to put the inner cable back in again first then push the outer up and clip into place. Also it is a tad easier if you take off the steering wheel, Can be done with it on but it is a bit of a squeeze to get it past the hazard light switch and then slide it past the wheel, Good chance you could mark the dash.
