Hi guys, looking for a bit of advice and pointers on a conversion.
I'm thinking about converting my car to run a mk1 Focus RS engine and have a few things I'm not sure about, and want to check before getting started. I know there is a few knowledgeable guys in here![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Firstly, I wont be looking for huge power - would rather have a solid and reliable 250bhp so to start with I'd be using an uprated RST box which makes mounting things up easy.
Turbo - I'd want to use the Focus manifold and turbo but would the downpipe foul the front mount starter, as Focus are rear mount starters?
Chargecooler - can I just do away with this and use a decent front mount intercooler?
Inlet & management - I'm guessing trying to use the Focus management would be a big job, so what are the alternatives? Is the Focus RS inlet unique to the RS or can another be used? I've seen the Rover inlet used before but I'm looking for stuff that bolts straight on.
There will probably be other questions, but will update as I go! Cheers for any advice/input.

A focus RS engine will piss 250 as some are running 400 now on standard internals. With the engine, standard turbo and mani, inlet and injectors combined with a front mount cooler 300 is a piece of cake. I'd use the box too if you have it and mod the chassis rails to take it. Contact crazycage on here. He will guide you. Good luck

Yes do away with the charge cooler and fit a decent ERST front mount.
FRS Inlet is the same as any black top 2.0 inlet and is what I would use.
Management I'd use a GEN8 from Boost Monkeys, more features than you'll probably ever need and very well priced too.

Thanks for all the replies, and think most of my questions have been answered!
In terms of the inlet manifold, good to know they are same as any other black top, take it only difference is injectors?
Alan - will pm you mate

Manifold and starter will be fine, my mates got it all mocked up in his
Only main problem is you need a custom made downpipe and his inlet is very tight so if you have a lot of engine movement it will knock
Gearbox will shit its self straight away, way to much torque
You will need either a cts stage 2+
or a 1.8 mk6 escort diesel box (ib5) with s2 LSD and a lot of people fit ka 1.3 internals to give a better ratio, and with this set up you can fit a puma linkage
But as the guys above said the only solid gearbox is to use a mtx box conversion
