Default lightened & balanced ?

what does it mean ??

When I brought the car I was told it had been lightened & balanced, does the lightened mean the flywheel ? what about the balanced

The reason I ask is because I've got to replace my ap 4 paddle clutch (only had the car 1 month ) and was wondering if it will affect anything to do with the lighten & balance ?

Cheers, Duncan

Lightening and balancing is where they take all your components and machine off any of the small imperfections and unwanted material they have when they come from the factory i.e. crank.

I don't know all the technical crap but I'm sure someone else can help there

Basically, lightening and balancing an engine will help releave some of the stressess on the components, improve its life expectancy and help make for a smoother and more free reving engine. All good

To answer your question, no your ordering of a clutch is not affected by the fact your engine has been lightened and balanced.

It might be worth getting someone to inspect the flywheel though as it may need to be resurfaced.

You know this always got me, people keep going on how now that they have lightened their pistons ect they can now rev it to xxxxx amount.

Well how the fook do they know that!!! Have they done it, blown it at 8000 and gone, oh well thats how hi I can rev it now!

Seriously how you supposed to test that without blowing the block to shat!!

Not too sure how you find out what the RPM limit is but has with any most performance modifications it puts the power further up the RPM range.

I guess because you have removed alot of the un-necessary rotating mass and therefore lightened it, it will move more freely. Also because it is all in balance with each other there is less friction and the components are working together rather than against.... if that makes sense

Lightening and balancing won't make your RPM range much higher, just makes it more free reving therefore quicker acceleration

lightening and balancing is carried out to the pistons, conrods, crank, clutch, flwheel, front pulley. The conrods for example are made equal in weight, and end to end balanced, to ensure they each have the same centre of gravity.

Lightening and balancing does not extend the rev range, or generate more power. It makes the engine smoother, and can increase reliability in circumstances where the vibration could have previously caused a fastner to give.

so changing the clutch and possibly getting the flywheel skimmed will not affect anything ? ie. will I need to get it all balanced again ?
