ive got a xr2 with a ts turbo engine
quick spec
ofab ecu
motorsport development chip for spec
beige injectors
t3 with 360 degree bearing

now when you start it from cold u get a rattle noise (normal for the 1st couple of seconds)

but theres a rattling noise there faintly at idle but when u touch the throtle (or go flat out) its worse

i baught the engine off a mate who got it and had been fully rebuilt ( looked clean all ports were mint down the bores was clean aswell obv had been apart)

would the tappets still be noisey even underload and at 3-4000 rpm ?

im thinking its small end or piston slap

piston slap goes away once engine is warm and unless it's got fancy pistons shouldn't get this, the small ends are possible but for the price of a cam kit i'd put one of them in first and see what happens if not then it's sump of to check bottom end
