Default dodgy fans

Hi Guys,

Recently Brought my RS back from the chap i sold it to!! couldnt be happier missed her since the day i sold her!

However i have a intermittent problem with my fans they are currently wired onto a switch and when i use the fans sometimes they will turn off some times they wont, now last night they turned off and started spinning in the night by there self! so this morning i had a flat battery!!!

Is this the fans shorting somewhere creating a live circuit so the fans become alive or is it a different issue? OR is my car actually KITT?

Cheers

Lewis

the positive and negative from the Fans go to the switch and then a power wire from the battery to the fans. It all worked just before i sold the car!

Could just be a faulty switch that has shorted out, I would check that first. Otherwise all it can be is a wiring fault.

try calling your car via your watch. If he say's yes and starts then yes he is KITT.

It is fixed!! the wiring was absolutely awful good job it got swapped out for some thicker gauge wire. There currently was no relay however i am planning to put one in as i dont really use the car yet i can play around how would you wire the relay in, electrics start to confuse me at this point

The best advice I would give is to take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

By your own admission electrics aren't your strong point, which is never a good combination in such an area, you NEED a relay, with the current the fans draw you risk a fire!

In addition the fans should be an automated system (Hence why the manufacture done it) I never understand why people reverse this and rely on a manually operated switch to control them.

The relay switches the load to the fans, opposed to the actual wiring itself.

the fans were already like that when i did the conversion so i didnt have a chance to change them back! i will be getting a MSD fan switch to assist in the cooling and it will all be wired up correctly. I am more than happy with doing wiring as such.

the reason people change it is because they put twin fans in and obviously its easier to wire them straight in.

But as i previously said im currently not actually using the car its on my drive having little jobs done once i finished work every day
