Hey I've just recently bought an 88 spec Rs turbo series 2 my first ever proper Rs and I think that the bottom end has grown a slight engine knock it only appears to be in first and second gear really strange. How hard is it to change the bottom end to a 2.1 Zetec and do I have modify the head on the original 1.6 head. What engine do I use for this conversion. Thanks

 

If its only in 1st and 2nd it will probably just be the box. The CVH bottom end can take some serious punishment.

I went through about 5 boxes in the time i had me S2.

 

it defo sounds more like a knock than a whine first n second it sounds like a diesel knock only had it a weak :-( thats why im thinking bottom end. is it a long process the 2.1 bottom end? do i have to strip the whole engine out or can i do it all through the sump or do i have to change head gasket and do head work to ?

If you go down that route, take my advise and change the box too. MTX75 or diesel BC with slipper depending on the power output.

 

What car do those boxes come out of ? Mtx75 ?

 

Most larger CC engined escort, focus and mondeo.

 

Or get a mk6 escort box and fit newer ka duratec internals and rst slipper, karlos g is using this spec at 300bhp with no issues

And no fabrication needed to fit in our cars, just swap the gearbox bolts about till the mount lines up

 

so escort mk6 gearbox any model ? ford ka gears and escort rst slipper?
