Default oil warning light!

hi im new to this site so this is my first post of menny!

i have a problem with my escort s2 rs cabriolet and the dam oil light every time something electrical is switched on ie headlights heating rad fan etc etc the engine revs drops slightly and the oil light flikkers on during idel.
thought there might of been a problem with the battery and the alternator so i have replace them but its still doing the same i know its not the oil pump as i re-built the engine nearly 150mile ago and had it rolling roaded n tuned.

any idea what might be causing this as im at a dead end with it.

thanks

get a oil pressure gauge on it, normally a poor oil pump or worn engine

No expert on this but check your earths. Does the oil light come on when idling normally? The drop in revs is probably causing low oil pressure.

Normal idel it's fine the rev suddenly drop when the headlights or rad fan cuts in the car idels at around 900rpm and depending on what's on will drop to 800rpm the pressure switch is a erst item.

As above, id lift the idle a little too. MFI seems happiest idling around 950-1000 on the rev counter.

does it do the same cold and warm or only warm. If only warm i would say your engine has a oil pressure problem. I also had a rebuild engine with no good oil pressure. 0.5 bar on warm idle

Don't overlook a faulty pressure switch etc, opposed to actually believing it!

The switches are useless anyway as they only close at very low pressure, which if you did have you most likely would no longer have an engine, as said you really need to get a reading.

I'd like to see over 1 bar (14.7psi) at idle with oil above 80ºC.

I see around 1.5-2 bar on mine when up to temp. Probably closest to 1.5 bar but the scale on my gauge is squished below 2 bar.

Cold start should see around 4 bar, unless your relief spring is set differently or changed for a high pressure one.
