Default New owner of escort rst looking for some advice

Hi everyone I have just bought my first escort rs turbo it is a fantastic example but just needs a few problems sorted to be perfect. It a 1989 g plate.

It has a knock on the passenger side front when going over speedbumps.
Takes about 5 seconds to fire up from cold or when it's been standing a short while after driving but will fire up fine if its hot.
Starter motor sounds like it does not have long left.
And a some rust starting to bite on each side behind the rear bumper
And a slight grinding noise coming from the clutch/ gearbox area when lifting the clutch and low down the rev range in each gear.

Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Anyway here it is

No mate someone local it was someone the mrs dad knows paid a bit more than average for it but didn't mind too much as the bodywork is perfect and it has minimal rust underneath

Looks alright that.

The knock is most likely anti roll bar bushes, if they don't cure it new bottom arms should. Both are relatively cheap, i'd go for Poly bushes and any decent arm from motor factors will be fine.

Starter motor you can replace with item from a transit connect, straight swap besides changing a push connector for a ring type. And supposed to be much better.

Not sure about grinding noise, it could be something as simple as the clutch release bearing. I'd have to hear it.

Rust, well good luck! lol. Stop it as soon as you can, best advice is to buy a few cans of waxoyl and go around all the box sections and inside the panels with a good coating once you've repaired the rust you can see.

Finally, a good setup from one of the reputable companies will be sure it's running and fuelling properly, and will possibly sort out the starting issue too. Mine used to spin over if left for half hour once it was hot. This appears to have gone away since i fitted new injectors.

DONT CRASH IT

Looks a good car, shame about the mix and mis-match of lights around the car. Are you going to buy the correct tailgate decal?

Hi sorry if this seems stupid but what do you mean about the lights? I'm new to this so don't get you.
Eventually I will be fitting original lights all round if that's what you meant.

I think he means you've got clear fronts, amber side repeaters and smoked rears.

On a white car i prefer amber front and sides, rear i dont mind smoke or original.

Got smoked on my red one with clear front and sides, but i might swap sides for smoked.

Bit of an update fixed a wiring problem that stopped it from starting last week and was next to impossible to find as it was intermittent.

Fitted a group A ignition coil and aome proper ht leads from msd then gave it a good clean today then finally took some proper pics
