Default What oil pump to use??

Hi, I'm rebuilding a engine to go in my S2 and was thinking of using a high presure burton oil pump as its a stage 3 big valve head with acrilite low comp pistons etc but I've heard a lot of horror story's ?? What other pumps are better tho?? Cheers Ryan

Genuine Ford pump only for me. I just use second hand ones and have them checked

Many of us have ran the Burton pumps with no problems, but of course genuine Ford is better if you can get one.
Will have Ford stamped on it.

Used everything from genuine Ford to ebay £30 specials and im yet to have a failure and pressure has always been good. Pump will only create pressure as good as your tolerances allow

(and yes i know the pump creates flow not pressure before anyone gets pedantic )

Cheers lads, think I'm going to go with the burton high presure pump then and just fit a oil presure gauge to be on the safe side?? Obviously there is a oil pump on the engine that's coming out of my rs but the oil light flickers sometimes when under acceleration which made me think its knackerd as there is plenty of oil in the engine so I dont want to re-use that. You just hear a lot of horror story's about oil presure going and fresh engines popping

Assess whether you need high pressure or not. excess pressure simply causes more drag. I'd recommend a standard pump and if you find you REALLY need more pressure, you can simply shim or swap the pressure relief spring in about 3 minutes. thats the only real difference anyway.

I've used a standard aftermarket pump on my new one, besides a stuck relief valve due to being old stock i've had no problems. was quite alarmed on first start up when i got over 7 bar then the oil filter seal popped out.

took half hour to free off and its perfect since. Over 1 bar with 10w40 castrol at 90º celcius.
