Are they worthwhile getting? Do they make a noticeable difference? Know very little about them I thought initially they were just a gimmick

If you got the spare cash then yeah, I bought one a few years ago. I haven't noticed any changes in temps but i don't measure them.
You need to be running a fmic as it fits into the place where the standard i/c fits. But it cant be fit there if you buy Airtecs newer RS500 style fmic, unless you mount it else where.

Will make no difference to power (in case you were wondering), but will radiate a little extra heat away as any extra rad would... Not needed though IME, standard setup is a Nigel says fine if all in good condition... Unless your Roger and suffer with the worlds hottest running RST Orion!
lol

I understand the theory behind them lower coolant temps for the water running through the turbo and back etc etc but i was just wondering if it actually worked and there were noticeable temperature differences?

i fitted an auto specialists one on my fez and it kept the temp down.
As mentioned it wont give any significant power gains but mine gave me peace of mind on keeping my engine temp down
