Default Interesting read up on the RS1700T

Just a heads up, there is an interesting read up on the RS1700T in fast ford this month. Looks nothing like i expected or what the internet shows you.

Based on the mk4 escort, idea ditched for the Escort Cosworth. Well worth a read. Only one ever made

more like closer to 20 made, and like 5ish remaining i think

looks exactly like a quick google image search throws up, wasnt a big secret or anything, just a failed rally project, designed in an era of 2wd just as 4wd was introduced, so got scrapped and the rs200 was developed

It sounds like youre talking about this. It was a test mule for the Escort Cosworth based on a mk4 escort shell

that aint a 1700t tho is it? genuine question. did it have the same engine n running gear as the 1700t?

the mule was always like a pre escort cossie test bed kinda thing i thought? the 1700t was a mk3 project in its own right that just got canned

and nah i aint read it man

No its a different car altogether.

RS1700T was mk3 based, as you said, RWD, 1.8 BDT which later went into the RS200 because Ford needed something 4WD iirc

thanks, knew i wasnt going mental lol

1700t was developed much earlier, around the time the audi quattro came into the rally world, pissed on everything 2wd, and made ford can the rwd mk3 escort idea and throw the bdt into the 4wd rs200 platform for grpB

did the mule run a cossie lump seeing as it was an early escort cossie prototype? or just a 4wd platform? its kit and its lower bumpers looked a bit 3dr cossie inspired

Default rs1700t v mule

Hi all i don't know if you saw this link i put on a wile back, ref the rs1700t here is the link.
http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/...ad.php?t=62235
the mule was a prototype that was made to show what potential a sierra floor pan shortened and grafted into an escort mk4.it was shown to the ford big wigs who then passed the plans for the up and coming mk5 escort code name ace aka escort cosworth, regards paul
