Default what cam for mfi erst s2

what cam is best to use on a escort rs turbo s2 running on mfi.

Other spec's will be:
stage 2 turbo with -31 actuator
ported and pollished head
rs500 style airtech ic
s/s exhaust
pipercross open air filter
evo chipped ecu.

I know that there was a big hype on newman cams.
Are they still the best choise to make?

regards

Piper 285 t2 cam kit mate reliable unlike the horror story i had with a kent cvh 34 kit which fell to bits on jamsports rollers used the piper kit was a noticeable power gain and the way the car felt

Completely TRUE.

From personal experience too, not just forum knowledge. 3 cars, 3 rebuild heads, 2 Kent cams, 1 piper, no failures. I can't of been lucky 3 times on the bounce?

But hey, maybe I had everyone else's luck?

I'm not one to blow my own trumpet but...

Bet you ANY money I build more engines in any given year than jamsport. So if I know jackshit about engines, how little do jamsport know?

I'm speaking from personal experience, my personal experience tells me Kent and piper are fine.

Cam choice is limited really to only Newman these days, as already mentioned Kent and Piper use poor quality blanks for theirs (Not their fault, just all that's available when CVH cam demand is so low compared to other engines).
But as your target BHP is only 250 If your Ford cam is in good condition then just use that it has a very balanced profile.

To be fair I had piper cams in my 3 previous rst's and never had any bother with them and now I the cab I have a power engineering cam which seems to have held up to the abuse, can't comment on Kent though

I've got a Kent cvh34 cam kit fitted on mine about 6 years ago and have done about 25k on it with no problems at all.

Mines had a piper 285 t2 in it since early 2005 and that seems fine its even survived an oil pump failure (car was only idling for 10 seconds max when I noticed the oil pressure gauge had dropped so I turned it off) must be a lucky one I have.

I've read a few times on various forums that a newman cam is no good for mfi?!

Any truth to this?

Depends on the duration, it's widely accepted that the mfi system prefers shorter duration. Any cam that holds the valves open for an age isn't ideal for a cvh.

Newmans exclusive use of solids tappets is also a nuisance IMO

Apparently not, i've got the PH4 in my MFI turbo, it seems very happy indeed considering its pre-setup still.

MUCH better than previous engine which had a Piper 285T2.

Solid followers are a bit of a pain, but an hour or so every year/10k miles is a small price to pay.

Spec is similar to mine except for port and polish, i just did inlet matching when i rebuilt it.

Got a VERY good deal from Newman too, and very helpful over the phone with some problems i had with previous engine before id even mentioned buying a kit from them.

Probably made out of a decent quality blank back then.

No, it's fine IME and I don't see why the way the fuel is injected (electronically or mechanically) has any bearing on how much air is allowed to flow into the engine as long as it is matched by the correct amount of fuel.
