My new water pump arrived today for my CVH build and the impeller is plastic, will this be ok the old one was steel?

Will break much sooner but most newer water pumps have plastic impellas. Wouldn't fit one to mine to be honest

i wouldnt like to use it a lot of vw's audi's and bmw's have plastic impellors and they all have problems with the impellor breaking up or dropping off the shaft and are usually replaced with metal ones

Daf truck ones are plastic and last fine

just changed my a3 pump oe pump was plastic pattern pump the same never had problems with either

Nearly all water pumps come with plastic impellors.........better imo

its not the material you need to be that worried about as i havent seen any cvh water pumps that have issues with plastic parts.

What you should take note of is if the fins have a hole to allow better water flow. Most plastic ones do not have a hole as per the factory unit and will not cool as well as the type with a hole.

after working at bmw parts for 11 years and selling hundreds of broken plastic water pumps id stear well clear personally !!

Probably unlikely, but if the coolant ever freezes a plastic impeller will just break rather than shredding the teeth off the cambelt when the engines turned over.....
