Default has my head gasket gone?

hi all im after a bit of help, not long finished building my rs 1600i with an efi rst engine. jumped in it the other day drove a couple of mile and it started coughing and spluttering as i was almost outside my house i parked it up till the next day as it was dark. so next day had a look at it started it up and within a few minutes it started chucking loads of white smoke out the exhaust and running really rough and as i was looking around the engine you could clearly see there was water come out between the head and exhaust manifold and between the ex manifold and turbo. so turned the engine off opend the watertank and it wasnt far from empty and had a fair bit of pressure for the amount of time it was running. so left the cap off the water tank started the car back up and it run fine even when revin it up it wasnt popping or banging, so popped the water tank cap back on and within a few minute it started smoking and water coming out between the manifold joints i aso noticed quite a bit of steam comming out from the back of the block at the bottom but cant see where its coming from as need to get under the car to see.

im thinking the head gasket has gone but unsure as never heard of steam from the back of the block and stop without the water cap on?

has anyone got any ideas?

sounds like a problem with head or head gasket, leaving the cap off stops the pressure build up.

i had a litte play with the car tonight and before i took the head off, i done a compression test and all 4 cylinders made between 100-110 psi not amazing but not the worse, i was sort or hopping one would be low so i could say 100% its the gasket so also done a sniff test but that was clear too (i hadnt long topped it up with water so wasnt that bothered by that)

so i took the head and and had a look at the gasket expecting to maybe see it gone between a cylinder or between the water channels but it wasnt. the gasket had seen better says but i wouldnt say it was fooked. il post a pic of it us tomoz just to see what other people think.

i ran out of time toninght so tomorrow il take a few pics of the head and block as it is and after iv cleaned it as i think the top of the block surface looked a bit pitted and iv not looked at the head yet.

is there anything i should keep an eye out for while cheaking the head and block is there places there prone to crack or anything?

cheers
