Default Cross Hatch heads (CVH)???

Whats the differences between a normal cvh cylinder head and a cross hatch head?
Are there any advantages of having one?

Cheers Bram

I thought they had thicker walls but not sure if its true or not.

My brother was sorting through some of his spare parts earlier tonight and found a cross hatch head that looks like its never been skimmed or ported.

The cross hatch heads are supposed to have thicker port walls allowing for a larger throat size (the smallest cross section in a CVH head - just before the valve bowl area)
The standard valve size is quite large and will flow a tremendous amount if the port work is done correctly. To take advantage of a larger valve one should use the cross hatch heads that allow the larger cross section.

Karl Norris said the same to me last I spoke to him, heads with certain part numbers have thicker walls allowing for bigger valves, nothing to do with the cross hatch pattern.

Just been looking at the 4 different heads that my brother has in his garage and we know 1 of them is cross hatched because of the crosses on the outside of it all the way round, but i noticed on another head that it has the crosses all over the inside of the head but not the outer.
Anyone got any ideas on what the differance's are on these?

sorry to open up an old thread but its a relevant question...
do the cross hatch heads actually have larger port sizes than others? im looking for the best standard head there is to go on an xr2. I've got an 81sm6090 but not crosshatch, is it worth me trying to find an 81sm6090 that is a crosshatch?
btw hello im ade, first post here

Stock port sizes are all the same mate

Just have any head other than a leanburn type head as these do produce less power than a normal one

P.s the xr2i late efi head is now proven too take the biggest valves now along with the crosshatch

And not all heads with the crosshatch pattern are suitable for big valves , it depends on the head numbers and the batches they were made in

There was a pumabuild cvh tuning guide on google search that has all the info needed and part numbers too use

Xr2i efi heads have been known too have 45mm

And produce more power than crosshatch heads, with throttle bodies

Yes that's the cross hatch head that takes the 45mm valves with the same part number as the one I have in my shed
