I cant get my fuel pump to work. its a wiring problem coz i modded the loom but where is the fuel pump relay and what colour is it? The loom is xr3i efi loom if that makes any difference?

its purple ande located behind dash, drivers side. dont waste your time with a 2nd hand relay, at £50 nearly they arent cheap but should see you right for another 20yrs. just check through the wiring and the pump is in good fettle. bad wiring draws to much current and will overheat the relay. look for signs of heat.

EFI will be yellow and a conventional 'SPST' relay, this differs to the MFI "Timer relay" hence why it's so expensive.

Take it you've powered the pump directly to check pumps ok Mike?
(Btw the cvh is dead, dropped a valve head - just finished fitting a ZVH into the car. Think you and i need to go back to pod in the near future )

ecu controls the priming, its a negative trigger relay, unlike the MFI that has a timer to prime, the efi doesnt,

Then the ECU for some reason must be keeping it on (I assume you do have it connected to the correct pin?)

yes, ive now cured one problem and got myself a brand new problem! lol
typical with my car as its the worlds unluckiest car, nothing ever goes right with it.
the problem with the fuel pump relay was a break in the wire inbetween the bulkhead and the cabin, christ knows why! but ive bypassed that and its fine.
my new problem is now ive lost a spark for no apparent reason considering it started two days ago.
the ecu is powered/ earthed and ignition powered fine, and the coil trigger wires seem to be working fine, coil is powered, engine earthed ok so christ knows whats going on.
oh the joys of modding cars lol
