Default coilovers catching rear wheels?

Recently fitted coilovers on my s2 and I've come across a little problem. The coilover spring is catching my rear wheels. I am running standard rear drums so no extra spacing from a rear disk conversion. Now I'm wanting to no if anyone has ever ran spacers on the rear and is it safe to do so with the correct bolts etc? I'm running 205 40 16 tyres but they still rub with 195s. Hope someone can help. Cheers nick.
