Default Innovate MTX-L "narrowband" output to replace CO Pot?

Hello all,

Got myself an innovate MTX-L wideband kit and while I'm waiting for my shiny new OFAM to arrive I've started to wonder about the narrowband output you can get the innovate controller to do (separate to the wideband output).

On the fiesta turbos, you get a narrowband in the exhaust, is that right?
On the Orion EFI, we never had the narrowband, just a CO potentiometer near the battery. I wondered if I could fit the innovate, and then program the narrowband output to work as the OFAC would be expecting, just as a project tbh!

Anyone done that on a Fiesta RST to replace the standard narrowband?

I don't think the OFAB/OFAC ECU can do much fuel trimming as it's only a narrowband reading, but might be interesting to those people who want to fit an innovate AFR gauge, and continue to keep the original ECU happy.

I haven't looked at the CO pot really, but if its a basic pot you could replace it with a digital pot and a simple PIC that looks at the 0-5v wideband output and alters the resistance to change fueling. The change will be very slight though. TBH i've never paid too much attention to what the CO pot actually does... I seem to think it effects idle fueling the most.

You could do the above with a digital pot and an analog control circuit, its just probably easier to adapt with a simple program.

When i had my innovate on the ofac, i used the CO pot to acheive a perfect 14.7:1 at idle... It is ignored once the ECU sees throttle movement tho!
Narrowband fuelling was only on later/europeon cars Orions, Xr3is and Fiesta Xr2i & Turbo all had it abroad iirc, but never over here...

Matt - good choice on the OFAM, its a wicked piece of kit if u need a hand with anything give me a shout, if not theres loads of good guys on here too!

My FRST is from Italy and last batch ish, and it didn't have narrowband. Some of countries didn't allow the frst to be imported because it didn't have cat.

Oh yeah, and the OFAM rules

Yeah I was under the (wrong) impression that later fezzys or europe ones used the narrowband all the time to trim fuelling, so no bother, I was just interested!

Can't wait for my OFAM, getting the exhaust sorted and the wideband bung done this week hopefully, then it's time for a hell of a lot of learning!

Roger have you got any det cans?

Yes i have, home made ones...
To be totally honest i havn't really pushed the ignition table too much, so have only used them once or twice, but i did lean the afr's out and wind abit of advance in so i could see what det sounded like , just so i know...
It is a learning curve, ive found it hardest to find and tune the little settings that really make a diff to driveability!
