If the block has been heavily decked changing heads won't help. This would not be linked to any drive shaft issue.

i noticed that the pistons slightly pretude the bores, but was told this was normal.

Yes that is right, they do protrude, even more so if it's been decked taking them closer to the valves

could it be bad alternator bearings? or ps pump??? worn bearings make a lot of noise so.... probably not but i guess it s worth taking their belts off for a try???

why not just whip the head off and change the cam? seems you know what your doing in fitting new parts so i doubt the bottom end has spun a shell

You don't need to take the head off to change a cam on a cvh

cams are service items on a tuned rs turbo, bad design from the factory and no decent material to use for blanks.

newman are the best or a genuine ford cam !kit!

Does the noise change when you put your foot on the cutch
Might be a silly one but have you pulled the leads off one by one to see if you can trace it to one cylinder

My cvh sounds like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin at idle, when it gets nice and hot it gets a lot quieter.

My solution is to ignore it and replace it with a zetec

Should be easy enough to pick a decent block up, then get a decent machine shop to sort it out? I've got a block but I'm a bit far away.
