Default Sold my Sapphire and taking either a S1 or S2 in P/ex.

I know didly about RST's, Whats the dodgy spots to look for? It's got a T3 cosworth turbo on it, I presume it's had a conversion or something. What do i look for to make sure it's been done properly. And what boost can a 1.6CVH run if it has a standard head gasket on it?. and what can it run if it's uprated?
If thats no good he's offered me a semi restored S1 all rebuilt engine re-built and standard needs a re-spray. Not a problem as my mate has a body shop and would charge me £500ish for a full respray.

Both have mint interiors and standard wheels.

What would be the best buy. he has valued both cars at £1200 each.

Cheers

Mark.

The standard head gasket is one of the best ones available. I'd go with the S1 any day.

erst turbo can take max 22psi, but best left @ 18psi to prolong the life of the turbo.

Just make sure the engine sounds sweet and no oil leaks.
Listen to exhaust tone thats a key to listen for any mis fires or un steady idling.

if in doubt rag it and if i dont blow buy it

Right here is the spec for the S2:

Standard intercooler(gonna get bigger 1 right away),
195 Chip,
T3 4x4 cosworth turbo(Holding @ 16PSI),
-31 Actuator,
3" scorpion exhaust,
dump valve,
285Tcam (new 240 miles old)
recon head(ported and polished+ new head gasket)
New cambelt.
Loads of stainless steel bits under the bonnet.

Its mercury grey but it needs a new front bumper! the twonk has given himself a huge rectangle hole in the front of it. Needs to be done properly.

Standard alloys.

White dials!

tidy interior.

Looking at all the engine mods, What will be a good estimate on how much BHP it will have?.

Cheers

the s2 sounds like its been sensibly modded mate (apart from the intercooler?)i just had to have a new head gasket and was told the standard one was good for 18psi easy witch is about the limit for the standard injectors and good for reliability.Make sure theres no rot on the inner wings boot floor and usual places.Think you are looking between 180bhp-190bhp depending on how well its set up.Bigger intercooler will help alot

Mine runs a pace uprated one but im going to fit a bigger grs or i have seen a company called radtec make the bigger full front ones i think they look so much better then the little pace one you should be able to wind that boost up a little to 18psi when you got it fitted and an easy 200bhp if its running right id get it set up straight away mate just to be sure its safe to rag it

Going on the rollers tomorrow. Hopefully report back with a smile on my face.

Got a Pace intercooler now. It's HOOOOOOJ twice the width and twice the depth.

Just sorted out a 1.8ZVH engine. Built about 20K ago. Was running 190 BHP safe to run 220. But needs the breather hole enlargeing (is 10mm needs boreing to 15mm).

And in getting it for £250 smackers.

Pick it up on saturday.

So got a nice CVH head for sale with a cam in it(dont know what make was told it is a Piper 285 dont have nothing to back that up). Cam has done about 300miles. Bottom end if shagged.

Cheers

Make sure your zetec has got the oil jets fitted (spraying underneath the pistons)if not get them fitted, get's expensive otherwise.
Also, how deep are your pockets?
190 bhp+200 lbs = good fun + fairly reliable.
220 " +220 " = good fun + lots of money in clutches and particularly
gearboxes.
Good luck
