Default Permanent damage?

Took my car on a 200mile round trip at the weekend, and it was running very hot the whole way. I then (very stupidly) remembered on the way back that i'd left the timing fixed to 8degrees on my ECU, i changed that back to the timing map and it cooled down nicely...
Now what im concerned about is any lasting damage from it running so hot, i saw coolant temps of 106c at one point but was mostly running at 100, also the manifold and turbo were glowing red the whole time...
Ive melted some under bonnet plastics from the manifold.
Ive driven it since n it seems fine! So i guess im just worrying over nothing?

Id check for play in turbo shaft and check your oil as you might find youve burnt quite a bit off ;(

Quick compy test and give the turbo a finger spin on the shaft, even those just to put your mind at rest, I'm sure it's fine

Its fucked, scrap it :P

As above, i'd change the oil and inspect the turbo. Unless you were absolutely caning it which i imagine on a 200mile trip you weren't, i reckon the timing wont have done any damage and you've got lucky

I was gonna do a change as a matter of course anyway, when i do i'll pop the air filter to turbo pipe off and have a look!

TBH mate, retarded timing doesn't directly case the engine to run hot all over. Cylinder temp will be the same for example, exhaust temp will be high though.... Coolant temp will obviously go up as the high EGT will heat head up which obviously needs cooling.

Damage that can be caused by high EGT:

Burnt exhaust valves
Exhaust gasket damage
Turbo damage (although less likely imo)

I would of course change your oil due to high oil temps cause by hot turbo.

I've had coolant temps of over 100 before and haven't had any damage yet. Damage really only happens (warped heads/blocks/HGF) above 110-120 as coolant boils.

If your cars driving fine then I wouldn't worry mate

That sounds good then, just an oil change and a good check all round!

As Rob says mate I wouldnt worry about it if it's runing ok.
Also a CLT temp of 106 is nothing, I'd regularly see 115 on a hot summers day (ambient of 25) when giving my CVH full beans.

Well Rog! Still have not fitted the new manifold (no time in the last week or so) so have not maxed the turbo out yet, but it absolutely fly's at only 15psi and there is almost no lag!!
